It is paved with large and regular marble slabs. There is a columned portico along its eastern side, just like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bestephesustours.com\/blog\/curetes-street-in-ephesus-ancient-city.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Curetes Street<\/a>. Its western side was raised 2 meters and turned into a covered stoa during the reign of Emperor Nero (54-65). The entrance of the stoa is in the direction of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bestephesustours.com\/blog\/ephesus-amphitheater-grand-theater-of-ephesus.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Great Theatre<\/a> and has steps. Restoration of the stoa has not been completed yet. Originally, steel and lead clamps were used to hold the blocks of the wall together, but these were removed during the Byzantine era when Ephesus was economically quite weak. The figures of a woman&#8217;s head, a left foot, and supposedly a heart is seen on this pavement. These dates back to the Byzantine era and were made to advertise the Brothel in a facetious manner. In the 5th century, an Ephesian named Eutropis repaired this section of the road, and in gratitude, the Ephesians erected his bust on the street. The sections of the road which were not repaired during antiquity, bear the impressions of the wheels of the Roman carriages. These impressions are 10 to 15 centimeters long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"885\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bestephesustours.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/foot-sign-in-ephesus.webp\" alt=\"Foot Sign in Ephesus on Marble Road\" class=\"wp-image-1085\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bestephesustours.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/foot-sign-in-ephesus.webp 850w, https:\/\/www.bestephesustours.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/foot-sign-in-ephesus-288x300.webp 288w, https:\/\/www.bestephesustours.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/foot-sign-in-ephesus-768x800.webp 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Foot Sign in Ephesus on Marble Road<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The excavation and restoration of the road beyond the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bestephesustours.com\/blog\/theatre-gymnasium-ephesus.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Theatre Gymnasium<\/a> are being carried out by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bestephesustours.com\/blog\/ephesus-archaeological-museum.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ephesus Museum<\/a>. A well-preserved section of an arch made of regular bricks indicates that there were arches made of brick between the columns and that the porticos were roofed with wood. During restorations in the 4th century, rows of seats were brought here from the Stadium and used as parapets.
