Bodrum Castle and the Museum of Underwater Archaeology
On arrival, you start your tour with Bodrum Castle and the Museum of Underwater Archaeology. This historical fortification was constructed by the Knights of St. John in the 15th century and taken over by the Ottoman Empire in 1523. By Turkish Government turned it into a museum for the underwater discoveries of ancient shipwrecks in 1960 and inscribed it in the Tentative list of World Heritage Sites.
The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus
After a short free time for lunch in the town center, you will continue the tour with the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus. It was a tomb built in 350 BC for Mausolus, a governor of the Achaemenid Empire in Halicarnassus. And it was identified as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Most of the marble columns and reliefs were later used to fortify the castle. Today, the word “mausoleum” is named after Mausolus.
After the tour transfer back to Kusadasi or Izmir.
