The House of the Virgin Mary is located on the Mount Bulbul and 5 kilometers from Ephesus Ancient City. According to tradition, St. John brought the Virgin Mary to Ephesus after the crucifixion of Jesus. In 1891, Lazarist priests discovered this house, where the Virgin Mary is believed to have spent her last days and died, following the vision of the German nun Anna Katherina Emerich. After Pope Paul VI visited the house in 1967, the house became sacred to both Christians and Muslims. Every year on 15 August, the Assumption ceremonies are held here and attracting many visitors.
